Athens-Attica Hotels Occupancy Levels at 72.3% in January-May

Occupancy levels at hotels in Athens and Attica reached 72.3 percent in the first five months of the year up from 68.9 percent in the same period a year ago, according to data released this week by the Athens-Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association’s (EXAA).

Despite recording a 2.7 percent decline, occupancy levels were the best in May compared to the other months.

Average daily rate (ADR) for the January-May period reached 127.15 euros marking an 8.8 percent rise over 2023 and revenue per available room (RevPAR) came to 91.90 euros in 2024 up from 80.58 euros in the first five months of 2023 marking a 14 percent rise.

According to Athens – Attica hoteliers, May and June are peak months. In May, ADR increased by 15.6 percent to 178.16 euros compared to a year earlier and RevPAR reached 153.50 euros up by 12.4 percent over the year-ago period.

3-star hotels performed best

The same data showed that 3-star hotels performed best in terms of occupancy levels in the five-month period (80.5 percent) and in May 2024 (91.9 percent), followed by 4-star and 5-star hotels.

Compared to occupancy levels in rival cities in the first five months of 2024, hotels in Athens and Attica fared well. Indicatively, average occupancy ranged between 63.4 percent in Vienna and 75.8 percent in London. Athens-Attica hotels outdid Istanbul (63.9 percent).

Average room rates in other cities were above going rates in Athens (127.15 euros): Barcelona (179.32 euros), Madrid (162.54 euros), Rome (218.63 euros), Paris (302.55 euros), London (202.33 euros), Amsterdam (170.46 euros).
