Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni announced recently that plans were underway to upgrade the ministry’s marketing strategy.

Addressing a regional council meeting chaired by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) in the presence of regional governors and authorities, Kefalogianni underlined the importance of utilizing new technologies for the promotion of destinations and experiences.

To achieve this, the minister said, it was crucial to put all available funding options to good use.

“As part of our strategy for sustainable tourism development, aimed at enhancing the viability and competitiveness of destinations, our primary objective is to promote the tourist product through innovative approaches and new communication tools,” she said.

The GNTO’s digital transformation

Kefalogianni then referred to the GNTO’s digital transformation which is aimed at increasing Greece’s competitive edge and includes among others:

– a new digital map offering tourist information in six languages,
– a Greek culture registry for each region,
– the AI-driven upgrade of the Visit Greece website,
– a series of new projects which include the development of a special app for those interested in wellness and spa tourism,
– a platform to simplify the digital nomad process,
– and applications offering guidance for mountain, diving and agrotourism.

“We are seeing significant changes in the global travel landscape, but also significant opportunities for Greek tourism,” Kefalogianni said, adding that the ministry would be in direct communication with regional authorities in order to design, plan, and implement a far-reaching promotional drive for the coming year.
