Surveys, Trends & Stats Arrivals to Greece via Road Increase by 13.3% in January-May by GTP editing team 1 July 2024 written by GTP editing team 1 July 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 20 International arrivals to Greece via road increased in the first five months of the year, up by 13.3 percent, according o the latest data released this week by INSETE, the Greek Tourism Confederation’s (SETE) research body. A total of 2.5 million travelers came to Greece by road up from 2.2 million in the same five-month period a year ago. Road arrivals from January, February and March were on an upward trend marking an 11.3 percent, 14.5 percent, and 10.8 percent increase respectively. However the number of arrivals slowed down in April dropping by 8.5 percent. Orthodox Easter helped increase traffic in May by 37.7 percent. According to INSETE data, main border entry points in Greece reported increases in the period under review were the Kipi welcoming 337,000 up by 40.2 percent and Kyprinos handling 72,000 arrival up by 161.1 percent. Photo Source: Visit Greece The Evzones check point handled the most arrivals at 532,000 up by 8.5 percent over the same period a year ago. Next in line the Promachonas check point were 330,000 arrivals were recorded (+10,2 percent) and Kakavia with 235,000 arrivals (+3.5 percent). Key source markets for road tourism to Greece in the January-May period were Bulgaria with 797,000 arrivals marking a 20.6 percent rise, Turkey accounting for 419,000 arrivals (+47.0 percent), and North Macedonia with 748,000 (+9.7 percent). Road arrivals from Albania dropped in the given period by 6.7 percent to 562,0000. Meanwhile, international arrivals through Greece’s airports marked a 13 percent rise in the first five months of the year compared to the same period a year ago, reaching 20,419,817.
