The agreement includes the construction of two vessels by Stena RoRo under a 10-year bareboat charter scheme, with an acquisition right available at the end of the fifth year of the hire period. Additionally, it includes an option to build two more ships on behalf of Attica Group. The two new vessels will be built at the CMI Jinling Weihai Shipyard in China, with delivery scheduled for April and August 2027, respectively. According to the company, with an overall length of 239.70 meters, they will be the largest RoPax vessels ever ordered by a Greek shipping firm. Environmentally efficient The new vessels will be Methanol ready and carry a Battery notation, equipped with engines designed to operate on 3 different fuel types to meet future requirements. They will also be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to optimize fuel consumption and incorporate high-efficiency technical features aimed at reducing the Group’s GHG emissions per transport work by 60 percent compared to existing vessels. With a passenger capacity of 1,500 and 3,320 lane meters of cargo decks (approximately 200 freight units) per vessel for the transportation of private vehicles, trucks, and trailers, these ships will significantly enhance the overall transport capacity on the Adriatic routes. Additionally, the ships will feature 256 cabins and 850 beds, with facilities including VIP air seats, 2 bars, 2 restaurants, a casino, shops, an infirmary, and more. Complete fleet redeployment Photo source: Attica Group Upon the delivery of the new vessels, Attica Group plans to proceed with a fleet redeployment which will allow the company to further reduce its environmental footprint through the retirement of older vessels and the decrease of the average age of its fleet. The innovative design of the vessels is the result of the collaboration between the Stena RoRo and Attica’s shipbuilding teams on the basis of the successful E-Flexer model, resulting in a modern and environmentally efficient vessel with significant reduction in GHG emissions. “Our agreement with Stena RoRo for the charter of 2 new state-of-the-art vessels, sets new standards for the entire Greek ferry industry, drastically reduces our environmental footprint, redefines the travel experience and responds dynamically to the challenges of tomorrow,” Attica Group CEO Panos Dikaios said. A leading coastal shipping company in Greece, Attica Group is the parent company of Superfast Ferries, Blue Star Ferries and Hellenic Seaways. In 2023 the Group took over ANEK Lines. Stena RoRo is one of the leading innovators of the roll on/roll off cargo and passenger concepts.
