The Best Airport Awards recognise excellence across ACI Europe’s vast membership – from the busiest hubs on the continent to smaller and regional airports punching above their weight – and across a wide range of airport activities. The winners were announced Wednesday during the gala dinner of the 34th ACI EUROPE Annual Congress and General Assembly, in Istanbul, Türkiye, hosted by iGA Istanbul Airport. According to ACI Europe, the 2024 Award winners implemented strategies pushing the airport business model into new territories, fostering new value creation models and embraced transformation and flexibility while taking care of their people and the planet. Across five categories — Digital Transformation, Eco-Innovation, HR Excellence, World Business Partner and Best Airport (split into 5 awards by airport size) — the crème de la crème of the industry was given due focus. Oslo Airport has also implemented an innovative baggage system, drone detection and autonomous snow removal. Athens Airport was highly commended in the category. The Best Airport Award winners in the other four passengers categories are the following “Under 5 Million Passengers”: Torino Airport; “5-10 Million Passengers”: Malta Airport; “10-25 Million Passengers”: London Luton Airport; and “Over 40 Million Passengers”: (co-winners) Istanbul Airport & Rome Fiumicino Airport. Recognising the efforts of airports in key areas, accolades were given to Toulon-Hyères Airport for Eco-Innovation; Hermes Airports for Human Resources Excellence; and Lorenzo Belicchi (SITA Vice President Sales) for Best World Business Partner.
