Featuring a diverse lineup of events with Greek and international artists, the festival is scheduled to commence at the end of July. The festival, established on Chios in 2017, is an annual celebration of music that aims to spread a message of joy and solidarity to the island’s residents and visitors. To highlight Chios appeal, the festival is divided into two sections: the summer edition and the winter edition, providing support to local communities all year round. “The Chios Music Festival, through its diverse and multicultural activities, aims to strengthen the sense of community and unity,” the festival’s organizers said in an announcement. Performances by Turkish composer Cenk Erdoğan, leading soloists of the European Woodwind Quartet from Germany, and the multinational Sebun Quartet will highlight the Chios Music Festival’s role as a bridge of friendship and culture on the eastern borders of Europe. Chios’ landmarks will shine as the backdrop for the festival’s concerts, showcasing the island’s medieval beauty and historic identity. Highlights of the festival include: – Rolling Rhymes, July 31, Michaleio Building, University of the Aegean, Chios: A special tribute concert to hip hop within the framework of the European program Soundroutes III. This initiative aims to promote social and gender equality, as well as sustainability. – Sebun Quartet, August 2, Holy Church of Saint George Sykousis: A classical music concert for string quartet. – Cenk Erdoğan, August 4, Chios Mastic Museum: An ethno jazz concert by the master of the fretless guitar from Istanbul. The artistic direction of the festival bares the signature of Olga Holdorff Myriangou and Eleftherios Veniadis. Under the auspices of the Greek Culture Ministry, the Chios Music Festival is organized by the North Aegean Region and the Municipality of Chios in collaboration with the Oinousses Municipality, the “Friends of Oinousses” association, the Chios Mastic Producers Union, and the Germany Federal Republic Embassy and the Embassy of Austria in Athens.
