The best of Greek tourism will be showcased in Tokyo at one of the world’s largest annual travel festivals, the “Tourism EXPO Japan”, this September.

Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni will attend the event, which is scheduled to take place at Tokyo Big Sight from September 26-29, under the theme “Travel, An Encounter With New Value Awaits”.

While in Tokyo, the minister will also participate in additional cultural events held as part of the bilateral “2024 Japan – Greece Year of Culture & Tourism” celebrations. These include a photo exhibition in the Japanese capital featuring the work of American photographer Robert McCabe, focusing on Greece during the 1950s.

Moreover, the emblematic travel literature book by Nikos Kazantzakis, titled “Traveling in Japan”, will also be presented in Tokyo, having been translated and published in Japanese with funding from the ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).

Arrangements for Olga Kefalogianni’s visit to Japan were discussed during a working lunch at the Japanese ambassador’s residence in Athens, hosted by the Ambassador of Japan to Greece, Koichi Ito.

During their meeting, the ambassador expressed his gratitude to Minister Kefalogianni for her attention and care during the visit of Princess Kako to Greece in late May, which marked 125 years of diplomatic relations between Greece and Japan.

It is worth noting that the Embassy of Japan in Greece and the Municipality of Athens celebrated in late June the “Natsu Matsuri” festival with a special event in the Greek capital, for the third consecutive year. The festival was held at the city’s public Japanese park in Pagrati, an Athenian neighborhood located near the National Gallery.
