Greek hoteliers are actively participating in developing civil defense and citizen protection plans for emergencies in the country. The Hellenic Chamber of Hotels recently presented a special electronic platform to the Ministry of Climate Change and Civil Protection, which enables citizens to stay in hotel rooms during natural disasters. The Chamber’s IT team created the electronic platform, which manages the entire relocation process for citizens in emergencies. The creation of the platform was officially announced during a meeting attended by the Deputy Minister of Climate Change and Civil Protection Evagelos Tournas and Hellenic Chamber of Hotels President Alexandros Vassilikos. Access to the platform will be made available to: – Public authorities, such as the Ministry of Climate Change and Civil Protection, who will also be responsible for its operation. – Hoteliers, to register available rooms. – Citizens seeking safe accommodations. – The Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, which established the platform and will also maintain, update, and upgrade it. Citizens affected by natural disasters will receive a message through the pan-European emergency telephone number 112, directing them to register with the platform for emergency accommodations. If people are unable to register electronically, the Civil Protection help desk will assist with their applications for assistance. Minister Tournas expressed the government’s gratitude for the chamber’s voluntary initiatives to assist the state during emergencies, while Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni stated that such initiatives “confirm the professionalism and substantial role” of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels as an institutional advisor to the state. On his part, the chamber’s president, Alexandros Vassilikos, said, “Only by joining forces with the private sector and the state, and through cooperation, can we tackle the great challenges of our times”.
