Iceland, Monaco, the UK, Greece, and Spain are Europe’s most expensive countries for short-term rentals, according to analytics experts AirDNA.

However, as AirDNA’s data shows, in each of these countries vacationers will also find exceptionally affordable accommodation if they do not insist on staying at the most coveted destinations.

In Greece for example, 16 out of its 277 markets, have average daily rates (ADRs) of 250 euros or higher, catering to luxury travelers seeking premium experiences. Cosmopolitan Mykonos, in particular, stands out with an average of 754.39 euros per night, cementing its reputation as a high-end destination.

“It’s destinations like Mykonos that put Greece on the map as one of the most expensive countries in Europe,” AirDNA says.

For budget-conscious visitors, however, the three markets with 10 or more listings and the cheapest ADRs are:

– Soufli, a silk producing village in northern Greece that welcomes visitors for only 36.74 euros
Lamia, a town in central Greece’s plains that charges 44.46 euros, and
– the Municipality of Pavlos Melas, northwest of the city of Thessaloniki, where Airbnb-type rentals can be found for an average price of just 49.16 euros.

“These hidden gems provide an opportunity to experience Greece’s charm and hospitality without the high costs associated with more popular destinations,” AirDNA says.

According  to AirDNA, out of the 277 markets in Greece, 119 have average ADRs of 100 euros or less, meaning that travelers have plenty of budget-friendly choices when exploring the country.

Referring to Athens, AirDNA highlights “the highest-performing markets in Greece”, namely Marousi, Agia Paraskevi, and Egaleo, which are affordable for guests at less than 100 euros per night.

“Located near Athens, these destinations offer a blend of urban amenities and proximity to cultural attractions, making them appealing to a wide range of travelers,” AirDNA says.
