Crete Getting Ready for 8th International Half Marathon

Renowned athletes from 43 countries will run alongside esteemed Greek runners at the International Half Marathon of Crete, emphasizing the importance of exercise for health and fitness.

In its eighth edition, the International Half Marathon, scheduled for October 6, will feature a 21.1 km race for adults, 1 km, 5 km, and 10 km routes for children, and a 200-meter race for people with disabilities.

Organized by the Arkalochori Health Sports Association, the marathon began in 2014 as a local race and has since evolved into a tourism attraction with international interest.

The marathon puts Crete in the spotlight by showcasing its natural beauty, the warm hospitality of its people, Cretan traditions, and the benefits of the Cretan diet, promoting the island’s tourism advantages and satisfying the needs of runners.

Athletes from the US, Cyprus, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Argentina, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and other countries will participate in the event. According to a statement, the runners will include top Greek long-distance athletes and distinguished foreign champions.

Interested participants can register for the International Half Marathon on the event’s website, www.cretehalfmarathon.com.

The event is supported by the Region of Crete, the Minoa Pediada Municipality, and the cultural associations of Choumeri, Galata, Voni, Zoforoi, Thrapsano, and Rousochori.
