Company updates Uber ‘Rides High’ on Extended Greek Tourism Season by GTP editing team 17 July 2024 written by GTP editing team 17 July 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 29 Uber, the popular ride-hailing company, recently reported Greece’s tourism season as successful, citing a significant increase in the movement of foreign visitors, reflected in the usage data of the Uber application in Greece. Referring to data regarding the demand for its taxi services, Uber reported increased numbers since April. The company noted that starting from spring, customers began facing difficulties in securing taxi services due to heightened demand, highlighting an extended tourism season in Greece. For instance, in April 2024, Uber’s taxi trip numbers in Athens increased by 72 percent compared to the same month the previous year, with app sessions also rising by 64 percent. The data indicates a surge in foreign tourist numbers and an extended tourist season in Greece, particularly evident in taxi trips to and from Athens International Airport (AIA). In April, these trips saw a remarkable 101 percent increase compared to the previous year. Similar trends continued with increases of 52 percent in May and 64 percent in June compared to the same months in 2023. Additionally, the company offers a BOAT service for rides in Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu, and along the Athenian Riviera. “This year, the tourist season started stronger than in the nearly 10 years that Uber has been active in the Greek market,” said Mary Gaitanarou, Uber’s Country Operations Manager for Greece. According to Gaitanarou, in addition to American and British tourists, who make up the top two nationalities using the application for their transportation needs, Australian visitors rank third this year. “As Uber, we are committed to facilitating safe transportation for both residents and tourists in our country through our technology,” she said.
