The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) is intensifying its efforts to promote pilgrimage and religious tourism in Greece through enhanced collaboration with the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.

During a recent meeting with Archimandrite Theologos Alexandrakis, Director of the Institute for Pastoral Education of the Holy Archdiocese, GNTO President Angela Gerekou presented the organization’s print and digital promotional material for religious tourism.

In response, Archimandrite Alexandrakis highlighted the institute’s diverse academic and research projects, including its initiative to digitize all sacred relics from the churches and monasteries within the Athenian Archdiocese.

The Institute for Pastoral Education of the Holy Archdiocese is recognized as a research center and holds ISO Quality Management Certificates.

Moreover, during the meeting, both parties agreed on the need for further collaboration to boost the promotion of Greece’s religious monuments and relics, with an emphasis on leveraging digital technology.

Angela Gerekou also toured the institute’s premises, including the well of the Monastery of Saint Filothei and its chapel, which are incorporated within the building site.
