Photo source: Ministry of National Economy and Finance The port upgrade projects in Souda, Crete and Stylida, Central Greece, will be funded by the Resilience and Recovery Fund, according to a decision by Alternate Minister of Economy Nikos Papathanasis. As announced by the Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance, these projects fall under the “Private Investments and Transformation of the Economy” pillar of the “Greece 2.0” national plan. The Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy is overseeing both initiatives, which have a combined budget of 24 million euros. Souda port upgrade Souda Port. Photo source: Chania Port Authority Managed by the Chania Port Authority, Souda Port is a critical hub in the Mediterranean for both commercial and military activities. It serves as a major center for the import and export of goods, and is also a key site for NATO operations. Additionally, it plays a significant role in cruise and ferry traffic. The “Souda Port Passenger Terminal—Intermediate Phase” project will receive funding of 12,417,523 euros. This initiative includes the construction of a new passenger terminal that will integrate a unified system and offer services akin to those found in airport terminals. Photo source: Stylida Municipality Located on the northern shore of the Maliakos Gulf in Central Greece, the Port of Stylida is managed by the Stylida Port Authority and operated by the Port Fund of Fthiotida. The port features three commercial piers with a total length of 370 meters, accommodating vessels with a maximum draft of 5.8 meters. It also provides facilities for vessel storage, minor repairs, and provisions. The project, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Fund with a total budget of 10 million euros, aims to upgrade the services for the cargo pier and the facilities for fishing and pleasure boats. Both projects are slated for completion by the end of 2025.
