Photo source: Central Greece Journalists and travel bloggers from Bulgaria recently experienced the best offerings of Evia and Viotia during a press trip organized by the Region of Central Greece. Specializing in the tourism sector, the journalists experienced the unique cultural and gastronomy products of both destinations, highlighted through their religious and historical monuments. Through the initiative, the regional authorities aimed to promote the advantages of both areas and communicate them to the Bulgarian travel market. During their stay in Evia, the guests visited the Saint David Monastery, the Museum of Asia Minor Culture in Prokopi, the Arethousa Archaeological Museum and the War Museum in Halkida. Evia, also known as Euboea, is the second largest island in Greece and the third largest in the eastern Mediterranean. It has a rich history dating back to the Paleolithic period and is famous for its beautiful nature and thermal springs. Photo source: Central Greece Viotia, alternatively known as Boeotia, has a rich cultural heritage, as the guests discovered while visiting the Archaeological Museum of Thebes and the Monastery of Saint Loukas in Stiri. The monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is built on a slope of Mount Elikonas. It is one of the most important monuments of art, architecture, and history, marking the official declaration of the Greek War of Independence in Central Greece on March 27, 1821. According to officials, local residents and professionals warmly welcomed the Bulgarian journalists and showcased the beauty of each area. Additionally, local producers provided opportunities to taste regional products and explained their production processes. “We are addressing an audience that has expressed a strong desire to learn more about our region,” highlighted Fani Papathoma, Deputy Regional Governor for tourism and culture. Skoulas Based on feedback from the press trip, regional authorities highlighted that Bulgarians have a great interest in Central Greece, as it is a directly accessible road destination from their neighboring country. According to data from UN Tourism, Greece’s inbound tourism from Bulgaria increased by 52.5 percent between 2017 and 2019, rising from 2.546 million in 2017 to 3.883 million in 2019.
