To enhance the transportation ecosystem, local authorities have installed a public electric bicycle system with automated rentals at various locations on the island. Using the automated electronic system, residents and visitors can pick up and use a bicycle for a set period before returning it to one of the designated parking areas. “They are particularly easy to use and convenient because bicycles avoid traffic congestion, require no parking space, can travel off-road, and do not pollute the environment,” the municipality highlights. Bicycles can be rented through a special app, at designated rental terminals, or with smart cards issued at Kea’s citizen service centers.
