Assigned and executed by Dynata research company, the report covers the travel plans for 2024 of over 15,000 people in 15 countries including Greece. Photo source: Revolut When asked about the month in which Greeks plan their main, longest vacation in 2024, more than half of respondents (56 percent) indicated July and August. Outside the high season, 11 percent of Greeks plan their main vacation in September and, contrary to stereotypes, these are not only university students. Ten percent don’t intend to wait too long and plan their main vacation between April and June. Only 6 percent of respondents will spend their main holiday between October and December, instead. Thirteen percent of Greek respondents do not plan any vacation this year. Top destinations and holiday style for the 2024 season Photo: Shutterstock.com According to the survey, 7 Greeks out of 10 will spend their holidays in Greece, 15 percent will travel across Europe, while only 2 percent will travel outside Europe. Among those traveling in Europe, favorite destinations are Italy, France and Germany, while those traveling long-haul will choose mainly USA and South-East Asian countries. Greek respondents traveling in Europe are mainly people aged 25-34 (24 percent) while those choosing an intercontinental destination are mainly over 55 years old. Type of holidays Greeks prefer Beach holidays are Greeks’ favorite type of holiday for this year, chosen by over 6 Greeks out of 10. But Greeks will also go on family trips (22 percent), party and music festival holidays (12 percent), city breaks and wellness trips (both at 11 percent). Two percent of Greeks plan to do a workation this year: a mix of work and holiday. Camping or all inclusive? According to Revolut, a successful holiday is often determined not only by the destination but also by where people stay and what attractions the place can offer. Greeks were asked what activities and experiences they value while traveling and data revealed that Greeks’ favorite activities is visiting local monuments (49 percent), taste local cuisine and learn about local traditions (44 percent). When it comes to where to stay, the all-inclusive hotel with an open bar and buffet is a preferred choice (27 percent) while camping and caravaning are chosen only by 9 percent. The bank recently released digital eSIM cards that allows customers to get mobile data abroad, and stay connected without unexpected roaming charges and interruptions. According to Revolut, one Greek out of four said they had issues with their phone/connection while traveling abroad in the past.
