According to a new study by INSETE, the research institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), road arrivals increased by 14.5 percent in June compared to the same month in 2023, with a year-to-date (January-June) rise of 13.7 percent. Most road arrivals entered through Greece’s northern borders, totaling 1,495,544 in June, nearly 190,000 more than in June 2023. Photo source: Avis Greece Car arrivals from Northern Macedonia to Greece also increased this June, by 16.3 percent compared to June 2023, reaching 485,567. Arrivals through the Greek-Bulgarian borders amounted to 720,983, marking a 12.6 percent increase. It should be noted that the greatest number of road arrivals in June was registered at the Greek borders with Bulgaria, with data referring to the entry of vehicles of citizens from these countries. Moreover, road arrivals from Albania in June totaled 144,112, an increase of 8.8 percent compared to June 2023. The top five border entry points to Greece in June were as follows: Promahonas with 471,069 arrivals, Evzoni with 393,589, Kipi with 119,605, Nymfea with 98,909, and Ormenio with 73,328. June arrivals to Greece by air INSETE’s latest study also noted that incoming tourism to Greece via airports increased by 5.6 percent to 3.8 million in June compared to the same month last year, and by 9.6 percent to 9.7 million for the year to date over 2023. January-May tourism revenue Referring to the months of January to May 2024, the study’s data showed that income from all travelers to Greece increased by 16.2 percent compared to the same period in 2023, amounting to 3,806 million euros. The greatest increase in tourist income during this period came from tourists from other European Union member countries, who spent 2,103 million euros, marking a 24.7 percent rise compared to the first five months of 2023.
