The Greek town is making an innovative entry into the digital world through a Memorandum of Cooperation between Ancient Olympia Mayor Aristides Panagiotopoulos and the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. “The promotion of Ancient Olympia and servicing visitors are at the center of our municipality’s pursuits,” Mayor Panagiotopoulos said during a video call with Panteion University’s president, Christina Koulouri; head of public relations, Katerina Parasidou; and sociology professor, Konstantinos Koskinas. Professor Koskinas, who is also the director of the university’s Laboratory of Virtual Reality, Internet Research, and E-Learning, will be the scientific director of the project. On her part, the university’s president said the app would help boost the brand name of Ancient Olympia and highlight the destination’s “modern face.” “This will create new opportunities for development in the destination, which is exactly what the mayor of Ancient Olympia is aiming for,” Koulouri said. The next step for the two parties will be a meeting with Greek Minister Dimitris Papastergiou at the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance.
