From August 9 to 25, over one hundred cultural venues will welcome the public to celebrate the full moon, with a rich program featuring musical performances, stargazing, storytelling, and guided tours. On August 19, the day of the full moon, selected archaeological sites and monuments will also be open to the public free of charge. “We invite you once again, for the 24th year, to enjoy the moonlight at archaeological sites, museums, and monuments on the night of the August full moon, when the moon will be shining in its full glory,” an announcement by the ministry said. Photo source: Ministry of Culture Events will be hosted by the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Byzantine Culture of Thessaloniki, as well as the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion on Crete. Additionally, sites hosting some of the events include the Nymphe Koronia Cave in Livadia, Central Greece; the Tsiatsiapa Mansion in Kastoria; the Museum of Asian Art of Corfu; the Castle of Saint George on Kefalonia; the Numismatic Museum of Athens; and the Archaeological Museum of Mystras. The events will be co-organized by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, the General Directorate for the Restoration, Museums and Technical Works, along with local authorities and associations. The Acropolis Museum in Athens will also celebrate August Full Moon with a concert by the historic Hellenic Air Force Band, featuring Greek songs, film music, and famous melodies.
