Photo source: Kythnos Municipality August continues to be the peak month of the tourist season in Greece, with both international and domestic tourists flocking to diverse destinations such as Messinia in the Peloponnese, the island of Kythnos, and Ierapetra on the southeastern coast of Crete. In early August, Dimitris Karalis, President of the Messinia Hoteliers Association, told TV station Mega Channel: “We are fully booked; if we had more rooms available, we could accommodate even more guests. Reservations indicate this high demand will continue until around August 20th to 22nd.” Karalis noted that while the tourism season began promisingly in May, it did not develop as anticipated. However, he mentioned that recent improvements have addressed the issue, and last-minute visitors are likely to find accommodations, with prices starting at 70 euros per night in August. Prices start at 70 to 80 euros per night,” he said. On Crete, one of Greece’s most popular destinations, Manolis Mihelarakis, president of the association representing F&B establishments in Ierapetra, reported that the area is experiencing high tourist activity. “Hotels and short-term rentals are fully occupied. We strive to keep our prices affordable, as many of our restaurants are open year-round to ensure visitors can enjoy our cuisine,” Mihelarakis said.
