To ensure the safety of road travelers, the police will deploy marked patrol cars, motorcycles, and unmarked vehicles to monitor the roads. Traffic police will concentrate their efforts on high-risk areas, including sections of the road network with a history of frequent accidents, the exit and entry points of major urban centers, and heavily trafficked locations such as ports, airports, and bus terminals. They will be particularly vigilant against offenses such as speeding, driving under the influence, using mobile phones while driving, and riding motorcycles without helmets. Additionally, the Hellenic Police will keep drivers informed about any special emergency situations to help prevent traffic congestion. Precautionary Measures Drivers are advised to take the following precautionary measures: – Ensure vehicles are in good condition before traveling. – Stay updated on road and weather conditions. – Avoid using mobile phones or other distracting devices while driving. – Refrain from consuming alcohol before driving. – Secure children in appropriate car seats. – Always wear seatbelts, and ensure helmets are worn when riding motorcycles. – Avoid overestimating driving skills or the technical capabilities of the vehicle. Restrictions for trucks Special traffic restrictions for trucks will be in effect around the August 15 holiday. Trucks with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes will be prohibited from all Greek roads during the following times: – Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 16:00 to 22:00 – Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 08:00 to 13:00 – Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 16:00 to 23:00 Join the 15,000+ travel executives who read our newsletter Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
