New infrastructure projects are underway at Paros Airport, including the construction of a new terminal, with a total budget exceeding 41 million euros.

Hellenic Aviation Service Provider (HASP) Governor George Saounatsos reported that the new terminal will be 17 times larger than the current facility, which covers just 745 square meters.

“The functional and modern design of the new terminal will position Paros as a leading destination for tourist arrivals through the airport,” Saounatsos said during a recent on-site inspection of the works.

“Passengers will benefit from a significantly enhanced travel experience thanks to the upgraded infrastructure,” he added.

Current projects at Paros Airport include:

  • Construction of a new passenger hall: The new hall will cover 12,500 square meters, along with landscaping of the surrounding area.
  • New control tower: A state-of-the-art control tower is being constructed to enhance operational efficiency.
  • New fire fighting station: A dedicated fire fighting station is being built to improve safety measures.
  • Runway extension: The runway will be extended on both sides to a total length of 1,800 meters, with updated lighting and signage.
  • Apron extension: The airplane apron will be expanded to include four additional spaces for jet planes, along with new lighting and signage systems.
  • New car parking facilities: Parking areas will be developed to accommodate up to 550 vehicles, including designated spots for buses, individuals with mobility limitations, and electric car charging stations.
  • Modern wastewater management facility: A new facility with a third-stage waste treatment system will be established.
  • Hydrocarbon separator unit: A unit to limit hydrocarbon leaks will be installed.
  • Photovoltaic system: A 100 kWp photovoltaic system will be installed and connected to the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO).

According to HASP’s governor, the runway extension from 1,400 meters to 1,800 meters will accommodate larger aircraft and increase both aircraft and helicopter parking spaces.

The new facilities are expected to be completed in phases by the summer of 2026.

Despite the extensive construction, Saounatsos noted that flight operations have remained uninterrupted. Data from 2023 show that Paros Airport served 331,852 passengers across 6,781 flights. Current statistics for 2024 indicate a 12 percent increase in passenger traffic.

During his visit to the airport, Saounatsos met with Paros Airport Manager Stella Sarri, Paros Mayor Konstantinos Mpizas, and Alexandros Keridis from the construction company INTRAKAT, which is responsible for the airport projects. The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport oversees the development of the works.

HASP operates in collaboration with the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
