The buses began operations from the newly established bus hub in Koropi, a town in East Attica near Athens and close to the city’s international airport. The event was attended by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, government officials, and the management team of OASA, the Athens Urban Transport Organization. Photo source: Ministry for Infrastructure and Transportation With the new buses now in service in East Attica, Greek Minister for Infrastructure and Transportation Christos Staikouras announced that an additional 66 buses will become operational in the coming weeks. He also stated that all 211 ordered buses are expected to be fully operational within a few months, meeting the transportation needs of Attica’s suburbs. Moreover, the minister announced that 140 electric buses are already in operation in Athens and said that a recent contract was signed for the leasing of an additional 300 public buses. According to Staikouas, one-third of these buses will be operational within three months, with the full fleet expected to be in service within six months. By the summer of 2025, another 300 natural gas-powered buses will be added to the Attica fleet. “In less than a year, a total of 950 new buses will be operational in the Region of Attica,” he concluded. On his part, Greek Deputy Minister for Transportation Vassilis Economou described the day as “significant” for East Attica. “In the presence of Prime Minister Mitsotakis, we are fulfilling our promise to enhance the quality of life for people in Greece,” he noted. These buses are not only environmentally friendly but also equipped to meet the transportation needs of individuals with mobility limitations. New buses, standard suburban routes The new buses will serve the following destinations: Peania, Koropi, Pallni, Pikermi, Gerakas, Rafina, Spata, Loutsa (Artemida), Anavyssos, Palea Fokea, Anthousa, Glyka Nera, Marathonas, Nea Makri, Vari, Varkiza, Saronida, Vouliagmeni. In western Attica they will cater to the areas of Elefsina, Aspropyrgos, Mandra, Magoula, Fyli.
