Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday announced the official opening date for the long-awaited metro in Thessaloniki.

According to the Greek PM, after years of delays, the metro will become operational on Saturday, November 30.

Mitsotakis made this announcement during his visit to Thessaloniki ahead of the upcoming Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), Greece’s most prominent trade event.

“This time, it’s real,” Mitsotakis said. “The Thessaloniki Metro will open to the public in 95 days, on November 30.”

The Greek PM also shared updates on other key infrastructure projects in Thessaloniki, including the new Flyover road, set to be completed by Spring 2027, ahead of the next national elections.

“Thessaloniki is transforming rapidly, and no previous government has done more for this city,” Mitsotakis said, emphasizing that his administration has met project deadlines.

In addition to the metro, the prime minister announced plans for two major healthcare projects in Thessaloniki: the construction of the most modern anticancer hospital and a state-of-the-art children’s hospital within the next four years. These developments are part of the government’s broader initiative to upgrade healthcare infrastructure across Greece.

The 88th Thessaloniki International Fair, scheduled for September 7-15, will serve as a platform for significant policy announcements.

On the first day of the fair, Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis will give a speech and announce his annual agenda on the economy and other areas of significant interest and concern.

Organized by TIF-Helexpo, the 88th TIF will focus on Greece’s contemporary challenges and emphasize new technological means, innovation, and sustainable development. TIF will host numerous B2B and B2C events, along with various entertainment and cultural activities for the public.

This year, Germany will be the honored country at the fair.
