New Voice Communication and Recording Systems (VCRS) will be installed in 18 regional airports across Greece, according to a recent contract signed by Greek Minister of Infrastructures and Transport Christos Staikouras.

This advanced air navigation technology will be implemented in the control towers of airports in Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes, Corfu, Kos, Alexandroupolis, Lemnos, Sitia, Milos, Samos, Kavala, Kalamata, Ioannina, Chios, Skiathos, Aktion / Preveza, Karpathos and Paros.

The VCRS will also be installed at the Electronic Applications and Major Maintenance Division (KHEMS) of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The contract, valued at 11,120,910 euros, was awarded to S.I.T.T.I S.p.A. The installation of the systems is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

“With the new VCRS systems, we are aligning with international standards and meeting the requirements set by European regulations,” said Hellenic Aviation Service Provider (HASP) Governor George Saounatsos.

He further noted that the new systems will enhance air traffic control operations, offering improved security through their auxiliary and backup features.

HASP collaborates closely with the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
