The Region of the Ionian Islands is advancing plans to establish a twinning arrangement with Shandong Province in China, aiming to further strengthen bilateral relations.

In this context, Ionian Islands Governor Giannis Trepeklis recently met with Xiao Junzheng, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Greece, on the island of Corfu. During their meeting, they discussed the expansion of bilateral relations between China and Greece, focusing on areas such as tourism, the economy, and cultural exchanges.

Governor Trepeklis highlighted the potential for the Ionian Islands to attract Chinese tourists who are interested in not only the natural beauty of the region but also its culture, history, and heritage. He expressed the view that the Ionian Islands could become a premier destination for Chinese visitors.
