Dimitris Fragakis, the former Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), takes helm as the new chairman of the New Metropolitan Attica S.A. development organization, as decided by Attica Governor Nikos Hardalias.

His appointment follows the recent resignation of regional councilor Nikos Papageorgiou from the position.

“The appointment of Dimitris Fragakis as chairman of the New Metropolitan Attica development organization highlights the significant emphasis we place on promoting tourism as a key driver of Attica’s development,” Hardalias said.

During 2019-2024, Dimitris Fragakis was the Secretary General of the GNTO.

New Metropolitan Attica S.A. functions as a regional development organization, established by the Region of Attica. It was created to serve as a developmental tool, contributing to the region’s long-term growth objectives and priorities.

According to the Region, this new collaboration aims to emphasize the vital role of tourism in Attica’s development, leveraging Fragakis’ extensive experience in the industry.

“Our aim is to make tourism a key driver of the basin’s development in the coming years,” remarked Nikos Hardalias.

Entering a new era, the organization will prioritize culture as a main advantage for tourism, while also expanding support to municipalities in conducting studies and executing major projects to benefit local communities and citizens.

Regional authorities also emphasize boosting tourism investments and promoting alternative forms of tourism to establish Attica as a sustainable, year-round destination. The plan further includes the introduction of innovative educational programs aimed at supporting research.
