This unique running event, endorsed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), promotes Greece worldwide as the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Since 2018, the event has brought the Olympic spirit to life annually, uniting Olympic and Paralympic champions alongside distinguished athletes in a single running team. On September 29, the race invited adults and children to embrace the joy of sports with a revamped program featuring AIMS-certified routes for the half marathon, as well as 10 km, 5 km, and 1.5 km races. According to the organizers, the “Olympic Day Run” Greece is expanding its program once again, leading the way with the introduction of the Half Marathon Olympic Road Race. “Experience a unique and original route that, for the first time, will span the entire coastal axis of the city, showcasing its tourism development potential,” the organizers stated. Olympic medalists, Paralympians, renowned athletes, sports clubs, associations, and runners of all ages and fitness levels unite to form the largest Olympic team, making a powerful impact in the global celebration of International Olympic Day and elevating Greece’s status on the international sports map.
