Photo © Greek Travel Pages Athens International Airport (AIA) set a new record during January-August, welcoming 21,260,634 travelers, a 13.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. Based on data of the airport, during the first eight months of 2024, the airport’s domestic and international passengers surpassed the 2023 levels by 7.8 percent and 16.6 percent, respectively. August was a standout month for Athens Airport, with passenger traffic reaching 3.64 million, a 10.5 percent increase over last year. Domestic passengers totaled 1,090,872, while international travelers numbered 2,549,600, rising by 6.8 percent and 12.1 percent, respectively. A record-breaking number of flights In the first eight months of 2024, the airport handled 180,594 flights, an 11.8 percent increase compared to last year. Domestic and international flights increased by 5.2 percent and 17.0 percent, respectively. In August, 30,244 flights crossed the skies of Athens, compared to 27,799 in 2023, marking an 8.8 percent increase. Athens International Airport, also known as “Eleftherios Venizelos”, was recently awarded with a “Highly Commended” distinction for outstanding achievement in the “25-40 million passengers” airport category by ACI Europe.
