Led by Deputy Regional Director of Tourism Vicky Hatzivasiliou, the office took part in the Venice Production Bridge, the audiovisual market of the festival, one of Europe’s most established film industry events. With its diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and a range of production incentives, Central Macedonia has been positioning itself as an attractive destination for filmmakers. Representatives from the region took the opportunity to meet with European film commissions such as those from Trentino, Veneto, Apulia, and the Torino Film Lab. These meetings served to explore potential collaborations and opportunities to promote the region’s assets to international professionals. By attending events like the Venice Film Festival, Central Macedonia aims to foster relationships with key players in the audiovisual industry. This effort is part of a larger global trend where regional film offices work to promote local areas as filming destinations by offering incentives and facilitating production processes. Another dimension to these efforts is the growing potential for film-induced tourism. When films and TV shows highlight particular locations, these places often experience increased tourism from audiences eager to visit the settings they’ve seen on screen. Central Macedonia, known for its natural and cultural attractions, is in a strong position to benefit from this trend. These ongoing efforts are aimed at enhancing Central Macedonia’s appeal as a filming destination, contributing to both the local economy and the broader visibility of the region. Besides the Film Office of the Region of Central Macedonia, the Greek delegation to Venice included representatives from EKOME (National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication), the Hellenic Film Center, and the Thessaloniki Film Festival. Greece’s participation in the festival was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism.
