A project aiming to protect, conserve and highlight the cultural and natural heritage of the island of Skiathos is about to be completed, announced the Social Co-operative Enterprise “Paths of Greece”, a member of the World Trails Network.

The project which aims to update the trail network of the island and to invite the active participation of its residents for their protection and maintenance, was undertaken jointly by Paths of Greece, Diadrasis org, and the Municipality of Skiathos. It was financed by the Green Fund.

It focused on upgrading Skiathos’ trail network to inform people with mobility issues of its possibilities and standards, thus enhancing its accessibility for all. Additionally, five new destinations of cultural interest were added by opening necessary paths and installing signage.  Skitahos belongs to Greece’s Sporades island complex.

The Skiathos Heritage Trails, according to the title of the program, provides information through the www.skiathostrails.com link, where one may seek specifics about hiking trails, bicycling paths and trail accessibility. The information on the link is available in both Greek and English.
