During a recent visit to the airport, Governor Saounatsos met with Airport Manager Konstantinos Efstathiou, who outlined the upcoming maintenance and upgrading schedule deemed necessary for the airport’s development. The planned improvements include repairs to the luggage handling systems, upgrading security cameras, installing two defibrillators with employee training, enhancing the air conditioning system in the arrivals hall, adding free Wi-Fi for passengers, and installing new lighting in the aircraft parking areas. Additionally, the airport’s BMS electrical lighting diagnostic board will be upgraded, and public hygiene facilities will be replaced. The recruitment of additional technicians is also on the agenda. Nea Anchialos Airport, identified by the code VOL, began operations in 1993, and its new terminal was completed in September 2010. The airport is situated 3 km past the Almyros Interchange on Highway E75 and serves as a key regional hub for both domestic and international flights, including charter services from major European cities. The airport is managed by the Civil Aviation Authority. Governor Saounatsos highlighted that Nea Anchialos Airport is a significant asset for central Greece. It serves eight surrounding prefectures with a combined population of approximately 1 million, offering substantial expansion opportunities.
