Le Figaro Magazine Showcases Thrace’s Rich Culture and Natural Beauty

Le Figaro Magazine, the prestigious weekly supplement of France’s renowned newspaper Le Figaro, has published a nine-page feature on Greece’s Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, titled “Wandering in Thrace – Where East Meets West, North of the Aegean”.

Written by French travel journalist Sarah Chevalley and accompanied by original photography from Eric Martin, the article highlights the region’s cultural richness, local gastronomy, and natural beauty. Chevalley and Martin visited Thrace on a press trip in late June, hosted by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) office in France and the regional authority of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

The feature showcases the region’s rich cultural heritage, local gastronomy, outdoor activities, and vacation options on the islands of Thasos and Samothrace.

In addition to these islands in the northern Aegean, the team gathered firsthand insights and captured photographs of key destinations like Kavala, Xanthi, Alexandroupolis, and the archaeological site of Philippi.

Their visit also included meetings with workers in the region’s tobacco industry, a tour of the Silk Museum in Soufli, and an exploration of the House of Shadows, created by Triantafyllos Vaitsis, in Xanthi.
