The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion has been relit, offering a fresh visual experience to visitors.

The new lighting, designed to highlight the temple’s architectural and historical significance, was unveiled during an official ceremony on September 12 attended by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and other distinguished guests.

According to the ministry, the project marks an important upgrade, 20 years after the temple’s lighting was first updated for the 2004 Athens Olympics.

On her part, Minister Mendoni praised the advanced technology used in the new system, which was made possible through the generous sponsorship of METLEN Energy and Metal (Mytilineos Holdings). “Τhis is one more case that the cooperation between the public and the private sectors offers Greece unique and innovative projects, upgrading its image worldwide,” she said.

The minister also announced plans for an additional lighting project to illuminate the surrounding wall of the temple.
