Exemptions apply to fishing and towing boats that spend less than 50 percent of their time at sea providing transportation services. The new tax, which must be paid by the end of September, amounts to 100 euros for boats up to 7 meters in length, and 200 euros for boats between 7 and 12 meters in length. This applies to both privately owned boats (including speedboats, dinghies, sailboats, and traditional boats) as well as vessels owned by commercial entities. For 2024, owners are required to submit the tax declaration via Greece’s Taxisnet system by September 26, with payment due on September 30. Moving forward, in accordance with Article 46 of Law 5036/2023, tax declarations for all small and medium-sized vessels will be issued in March 2025, with payments made in two equal installments by the last working days of April and June. If a boat is co-owned, each owner is responsible for paying their portion of the tax, based on their percentage of ownership (e.g., 50/50, 60/40).
