Acropolis Museum in Athens.

The Acropolis Museum in Athens will participate in the celebration of the European Cultural Heritage Days 2024 with the thematic presentation “Health: tracing a universal and timeless good”.

The program is in line with this year’s pan-European theme “Tracing Routes, Networks and Links in Cultural Heritage” and is part of the general spirit of the Council of Europe “Europe, a common heritage”.

On Sunday, September 29, a journey will start passing through the world of health and hygiene in antiquity, revealed by the relevant facilities in the ancient neighborhood that spreads out below the Acropolis Museum, but also by the multitude of objects on display in the newly established Excavation Museum.

Guided by the archaeologists of the Department of Educational Programs, participants will trace the ancients’ perceptions of health and hygiene, the ways and means they used to take care of the body and the soul, the scientific knowledge as well as the religious aspect they gave in order to secure the most precious good.

This event is offered free of charge, but a free admission ticket is required from the museum ticket desk. To participate, visitors must register online at www.events.theacropolismuseum.gr.

The tours will be divided into two groups of 20 participants. The first group, conducted in English, will begin at 10 a.m., while the second, in Greek, will start at 12pm. Each session will last 90 minutes.

On the occasion of this year’s celebration, on September 29, from 5pm until 8 pm, entrance to the museum exhibition areas will be free for visitors.
