The previously abandoned “Acropolis Garden” in Athens has been transformed into a unique playground and recreation space, following its inauguration by the Municipality of Athens.

Spanning an area of 2,440 square meters and offering a view of the Acropolis, the playground is designed to harmonize with the surrounding natural environment and is fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges.

“At last, we are officially operating one of the most beautiful and safest playgrounds in the city. We believe that our young visitors will enjoy it immensely, especially with the stunning view of the Acropolis,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas during the inauguration of the new playground.

As part of the municipality’s “Adopt Your City” program, the “Acropolis Garden” park is designed for children of preschool and elementary school ages. The playground features imaginative role-playing structures, including a wooden house and a cart pulled by a wooden horse.

Situated within an olive grove, the playground also includes a small elevated platform in a clearing, where children are encouraged to engage in traditional games such as hopscotch and hide-and-seek.

Additionally, the playground is equipped with urban amenities that allow caregivers to comfortably supervise the children while enjoying the facility.

According to Mayor Doukas, the municipal authority is actively working to create modern, safe, and open spaces where children can play in their neighborhoods — an essential component for their physical and psychological development.

The playground’s concept was developed through architectural, landscaping, electromechanical, and structural studies conducted by the Greek Society for the Environment and Culture (ELLET). The project was fully sponsored by the Onassis Foundation.
