Greece and Georgia recently reached an agreement to mutually recognize each other’s driver’s licenses, as announced by the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation.

The agreement was signed by Greek Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Christos Staikouras and Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri. It allows license holders to exchange their licenses for the respective national documents, provided the driver has registered their residency in the respective country.

This agreement facilitates and enhances mobility between the two countries while enabling their authorities to ensure that foreign drivers meet local safety standards and skill requirements.

Minister Staikouras expressed optimism that the two countries will have more opportunities to collaborate on transportation and infrastructure matters in the future, stating their commitment to “working together to enhance connectivity”.

He also noted that Greece is ready to assist Georgia in its European Union accession efforts by sharing expertise and best practices, which Greece strongly supports.

Minister Gomelauri said that Greece is the third European Union country, alongside Ireland and Spain, with which Georgia has signed such an agreement. He expressed satisfaction with Greece’s offer of assistance, highlighting that his country is working diligently toward EU membership.
