Destinations news Attiki Odos Highway Toll Price Drops Starting October 6 by GTP editing team 3 October 2024 written by GTP editing team 3 October 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 396 Photo source: Attiki Odos Starting at midnight on October 6, drivers using the Attiki Odos highway, also known as the Athens beltway or ring road, will see a decrease in tolls from 2.8 euros to 2.5 euros. This reduction comes following the announcement that the highway’s management has transitioned to the new concessionaire, Nea Attiki Odos SA, which signed an agreement with the Greek state. Attiki Odos serves as the primary toll road connecting Athens International Airport (AIA) to the city. The new 25-year concession agreement for the operation, management, and maintenance of the road establishes the toll price for the first five years, after which it will be adjusted annually in line with inflation rates. Nea Attiki Odos will have the flexibility to implement varying toll rates based on traffic conditions, the day of the week (for example, weekdays versus weekends), and different toll stations. The concession agreement, which has been approved by the Greek Parliament, mandates that GEK Terna, the company responsible for operating the highway, will initially deposit 3.27 billion euros into the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF). This marks the largest single income contribution to the Fund since its establishment nearly 15 years ago, and it is intended to help reduce Greece’s public debt, which is projected to decrease by 1.5 percentage points of GDP. Additionally, the new concessionaire will be required to allocate 7.5 percent of its annual revenue to the HRADF, contributing to further debt reduction. Over the course of the 25-year concession, the company is also expected to invest 380 million euros to maintain and upgrade the highway.
