Destinations news Uber Sees Record Growth in Greece Thanks to Booming Tourism by GTP editing team 7 October 2024 written by GTP editing team 7 October 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 30 Photo source: Uber Ride-hailing app Uber reported record growth in its services in the Greek market during the summer of 2024, driven by an increase in tourist arrivals and an extended tourist season. According to data collected by Uber, demand for taxi rides by foreign visitors began rising in April, leading to reports of taxi shortages. Uber cited this as evidence that the existing taxi supply is insufficient to meet peak summer demand, which remained strong in Athens and Thessaloniki through September. In Athens, demand for Uber services from July to September grew by 47 percent compared to the same period in 2023. Trips to and from Athens International Airport (AIA) increased by 50 percent, while trips to and from the port of Piraeus surged by 80 percent. In Thessaloniki, Uber rides increased by 76 percent over the same period. The company noted that September’s high demand reflects an extension of Greece’s summer season. Americans and British customers topped the list, followed by Australians, Canadians, and Brazilians, according to data for July through September. In addition to Uber’s taxi services, the company also offers Uber boat connections at popular tourist destinations, including Athens, Thessaloniki, Santorini, Mykonos and Corfu. This summer, the service expanded to include the island of Paros.
