Thirty-five new environmentally friendly buses have been added to the public transportation fleet in the Region of Attica, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced on Monday.

In addition to these, another 75 buses are being introduced into Attica’s suburban bus lines, alongside 120 new electric buses. This brings the total number of new buses in service across 11 bus lines in the Region to 250.

“The number of new buses entering service in Attica increases every month,” said Greek Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras during his visit to the OASA bus hub at Thrakomakedones. He was accompanied by Deputy Minister Vassilis Oikonomou and other officials.

According to Staikouras, this marks the first time since 2009 that new buses have been put into service in Attica, with the last significant update occurring over 15 years ago.

“Our goal is to fully renew the fleet, adding 950 buses in Attica by the end of 2025,” he said.

Deputy Minister Economou noted that the new 35 buses will be deployed in eastern Attica, contributing to a total of 110 new vehicles in that area, significantly enhancing suburban transportation.

“The upgrading of services offered to citizens is our top priority,” Oikonomou emphasized. “We remain focused on our goals to create a modern, green, and user-friendly public transportation system with all new buses.”
