The legislation, titled “Regulations for Mainland Border Check Points, the Enhancement of Local Government Entities, and Other Decrees”, includes several reforms aimed at streamlining passport issuance procedures and reducing processing times. The new passport issuance process is the result of collaboration among key government officials, including Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, Citizen Protection Minister Mihalis Chrisochoidis and Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou. According to reports, the technical foundation for the project is currently being developed, which will enable Greece’s consulates to serve citizens abroad more efficiently. Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgos Kotsiras is overseeing the initiative, which aligns with the goals of the 2024-2027 Foreign Ministry Strategic Plan for Greeks Abroad.
