Ferries Greek Seamen Extend Strike – No Ferry Services on October 24 and 25 by GTP editing team 23 October 2024 written by GTP editing team 23 October 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 28 The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced on Wednesday that it is escalating its mobilizations with a new 48-hour strike scheduled for October 24 and 25. As a result, coastal passenger ships will remain docked in Greek ports for these two days, following a previous two-day strike from October 22 to 23. Among the seamen’s demands are the repeal of Greek Law 41/50, which allows high-speed vessels to reduce their annual operational schedule to just four months, effectively turning sailors into “seasonal employees”. Additionally, they are seeking the signing of a collective labor agreement that includes a 12 percent wage increase, expanded unemployment benefits for more sailors, and compensation for overtime hours worked. In response to PNO’s request for a 12 percent wage increase, the Greek Shipowners Association for Passenger Ships (SEEN) has countered with a proposal for a 3 percent raise. PNO has requested a meeting with Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Christos Stylianidis to discuss their demands. Travelers with ferry tickets for the affected dates—October 24 and 25—are advised to check with their travel agents or local port authorities for further information.
