The 2024 Global Destination Index by Global DMC Partners highlights popular global destinations for meetings, incentives, conferences, and events (MICE), based on leads and requests for proposals (RFPs) for programs in 2024. “It’s interesting to see the new destinations that have made this year’s list, as well as the changing order in popularity of the top 10, particularly as our industry is a great indicator of the world’s economic strength and where the most business is being done,” said Catherine Chaulet, President and CEO of the Global DMC Partners. The Greek capital ranked as the sixth-best international MICE destination, ahead of Madrid, Vienna, Rome, and Berlin. Earlier this year, Athens also secured a place among Europe’s best best MICE destinations. Paris topped the list of MICE destinations for 2024, followed by Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, and Lisbon in the top five. Aegina, Greece. The index also noted an increase in interest for secondary destinations like the Greek Islands and especially the Ionian Island of Corfu, Aegina in Attica and Milos in the Cyclades. These secondary destinations provide unique venues, competitive rates, and easy travel options to meet the evolving needs of event planners. “We’ve also seen an increased interest in secondary destinations with an uptick in leads for 2024 or 2025, as compared to prior years,” Chaulet added. Japan, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Saint Lucia, and Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region were among the secondary destinations rising in popularity.
