Photo source: Municipality of Syros Tourism professionals and journalists from around the world had the opportunity to experience a traditional Syros breakfast, featuring local products directly from the island, on the first day of the World Travel Market (WTM) 2024 exhibition. The 44th annual WTM London tourism fair opened on Tuesday at the ExCeL Center and is expected to attract over 40,000 travel professionals by Thursday. For the first time, the Municipality of Syros, part of the Cyclades island group, kicked off the expo’s opening day by hosting a promotional event at the Greek stand (N2-220 and N2-520). The island welcomed visitors and tourism professionals with its renowned traditional breakfast, offering a taste of local culture and hospitality. Photo source: Municipality of Syros Held in a central area of the Greek stand, Syros officials treated attendees, co-exhibitors, and the media to a breakfast crafted from premium local ingredients. Local chef Lina Fournistaki and pastry chef Antonis Printezis prepared the dishes, showcasing Syros’ culinary heritage. During the event, Syros Vice Mayor Christianna Papitsi presented the island’s diverse range of locally produced goods. She highlighted how the carefully selected ingredients are incorporated into traditional recipes, giving each dish its distinct flavor and preserving the island’s gastronomic legacy. “Our municipality’s priorities focus on promoting the authenticity, cultural heritage, and rich gastronomy of our island,” Papitsi said.
