Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will lead Greece’s delegation to the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22. The delegation’s activities are coordinated by the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy, aligning with Greece’s strategic commitments to international climate goals.

The COP 29 conference is a crucial annual forum where global leaders and representatives convene to address climate challenges and assess progress toward the 1.5°C global warming limit established under the Paris Agreement. COP 29’s agenda aims to advance climate finance, particularly for adaptation, and to strengthen Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) amid the increasing impact of climate change worldwide.

PM Mitsotakis will be joined by key government officials, including Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis, Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Fragogiannis, Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Alexandra Sdoukou, and Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Stefanos Gikas.

With climate-related disasters on the rise, COP 29 represents an essential platform for driving climate action and collaboration. This year’s event follows COP 28, held in Dubai, which drew over 85,000 participants from 190 countries.

Greece’s pavilion will host more than 45 events with national leaders, government officials, academics, business leaders, and representatives from civil society. Sessions will focus on coordinated environmental actions, energy transition, and enhancing energy security. Key discussion topics include green finance, water and infrastructure resilience, energy security and geopolitics, carbon capture and storage (CCS), renewable energy sources, alternative fuels, and digital advancements in AI.
