Ferries Greek Ferries to Halt for 24 Hours on November 20 Amid Nationwide Strike by GTP editing team 13 November 2024 written by GTP editing team 13 November 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 29 The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced its participation in a 24-hour strike called by the General Confederation of Greek Labor (GSEE) on Wednesday, November 20. The strike aims to address inflation, rising housing costs, and the need to restore Collective Labor Law. As a result, all ferries in Greece will be docked from 00:01 to 24:00 on November 20, impacting travel plans for passengers. In an announcement, PNO noted that seafarers, due to the seasonal nature of their work, are particularly affected by economic issues, working only about 5-6 months a year. The union highlights several ongoing challenges for Greek seafarers, including unresolved labor agreements, insufficient maritime safety laws, and limited public maritime education options, forcing many to seek costly private alternatives. PNO has also called for better support for seafarers, such as expanded unemployment benefits and compensation for overtime. In its announcement, PNO also emphasized the need for updated legislative protections to improve working conditions and ensure safety at sea. Travelers with ferry tickets for November 20 are encouraged to consult their travel agents or local port authorities for assistance with rescheduling due to the strike.
