Greek airline SKY express recently inaugurated a new direct flight connecting Athens to Istanbul, marking a key milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy.

The launch of the new route was celebrated with a ceremony at IGA Istanbul Airport on November 12, attended by prominent officials from both Greece and Turkey.

“This new route underscores SKY express’s commitment to enhancing Greece’s tourism offerings and improving national connectivity,” said Ioannis Grylos, Founder and Chairman of IOGR Group, the parent company of SKY express.

The new Athens-Istanbul route will be serviced by the modern Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo, aircraft known for their environmental benefits, including lower emissions and reduced noise levels. This aligns with the airline’s broader commitment to sustainability.

As part of its ongoing expansion, SKY express is also introducing new routes to Yerevan, Tbilisi, Prague, and Vienna, alongside recently launched flights to Amsterdam and Tirana. This brings the airline’s total number of year-round international destinations to 22. Domestically, SKY express now connects up to 33 destinations across Greece.

The new route will also benefit IGA Istanbul Airport, further enhancing its status as one of the world’s largest hubs, ranked second in terms of airline connections.

On the occasion of the launch, Ioannis Grylos received an award on behalf of SKY express from IGA CEO Selahattin Bilgen, in recognition of the airline’s contribution to the airport’s strategic development.
