Greece’s capital stood out among 15 global destinations, recognized for its vibrant cultural heritage and the unique, year-round experiences it offers to millions of visitors. In 2024, Athens competed against notable cities such as Edinburgh, London, New York, Paris, Rome, Dubrovnik, Venice, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Kyoto, Hoi An (Vietnam), Barranquilla (Colombia), Quito (Ecuador), and Santiago de Cali (Colombia). The city, earlier this year, was also recognized as Europe’s Leading City Break Destination for 2024 during the awards’ regional ceremony. “At the Municipality of Athens, we remain committed to enhancing culture through significant initiatives and events that connect residents and visitors with the city’s rich cultural past and vibrant present,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas. At the World Travel Awards 2024 ceremony, Greece also stood out with eleven hotels and one travel agency, recognized for their accomplishments in the international tourism industry.
