According to officials, the regional authority has made the American market a strategic priority, recognizing its potential as a major source of visitors for Central Macedonia. “U.S. tourists typically travel for extended periods and seek diverse experiences, which makes Central Macedonia an ideal destination for them,” said Vicky Hatzivasiliou, Deputy Governor for Tourism in the Region of Central Macedonia. Showcasing Medical Tourism in New York On November 19, Central Macedonia participated in the Greek Health Tourism Forum in New York, an event that brought together key representatives from private clinics, healthcare institutions, and tourism businesses eager to expand into the American health tourism market. As this year’s honored destination, Central Macedonia was prominently featured, with regional officials highlighting its offerings to American professionals in the medical and tourism sectors. The Greek Health Tourism Forum’s primary goal was to establish Greece as a premier destination for high-quality healthcare services in this fast-growing market. The event drew a delegation of esteemed Greek doctors and professionals, including George Patoulis, President of the Athens Medical Association and the Greek Health Tourism Council (Elitour); Antonios Polydorou, General Secretary of the Global Hippocrates Institute of Doctors; and Dr. Konstantinos Pantos, founder of the Athens Genesis Clinic. Other participants included prominent medical and dental professionals such as Nicholas Vrahnis, Lina Evgeni, Nikolaos S. Kouvelas, and Lydia Mouzaka, who presented Greece’s advanced medical practices to their American counterparts. “This marks the first time we’ve participated in an event dedicated to medical and spa tourism,” noted Deputy Governor Hatzivasiliou. “Central Macedonia offers unique advantages that will appeal to visitors interested in these sectors.” Promoting Luxury Tourism in Chicago Photo source: Central Macedonia Region On November 21, officials from Central Macedonia turned their attention to the Illinois market, promoting the region at the “Greek Luxury Tourism Workshop” in Chicago. Discussions also highlighted the potential of Thessaloniki’s port as a homeport for cruise ships, further enhancing the region’s appeal to the American market. During their visit, Central Macedonia’s tourism officials met with Greek Consul General Emmanuel Koumparakis in Chicago, exploring opportunities to strengthen bilateral collaboration in promoting the region to U.S. travelers. According to Deputy Governor Hatzivasiliou, the Region of Central Macedonia is strategically targeting major international markets and working diligently to extend its tourism season, aiming to generate significant economic benefits for the region.
